First mailman and postmaster, John Tucker, on horseback, delivering mail in the Everton Park area in the early 1890s. He collected mail from the Alderley Post Office (Raymonts Store) and deposited it in the canvas bags strapped on the front of the saddle.

John Tucker (1860 - 1942) was born in Devon, England on 7 December 1860. He was the first Receiving Officer (Postmaster) in Everton Park, Brisbane. The exact date on which he took control of the Receiving Office is not known but he is registered as being in charge in January 1899. He also became the mail contractor collecting mail from the Alderley Post Office (Raymonts Store), Brisbane. He remained as the district Postmaster, assisted by his wife Jane, until the end of 1917. He died at Everton park on 1 March 1942, aged 81 years.
Jane Tucker (1863 - 1945) was born at Rocky Water Hole (Rocklea, Brisbane) on 3 April 1863 and died in 1945. Both were survived by three sons and one daughter. (Description supplied with photograph).
