Brisbane ambulance staff with a wheeled litter. Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade was established in 1892. In 1897 the first of the white ponies and sulkies were purchased, but the sulky only provided the means of getting to the place of the accident; the patient was still transported by pushing the litter.
Elizabeth Street (on the left) and Charlotte Street run parallel in this view of Brisbane. Perry Brothers Building is on the corner of Elizabeth and Albert Streets and Kangaroo Point is across the river. The cliffs of New Farm can be seen in the centre background. Creator: Poul C Poulsen (1857-1925)
