While doing some research for our Estate Maps in Oxley we came across this old black and white picture of the Young and Buckby Blacksmith on Oxley Road, Oxley.

Their sign shows:

Young & Buckby
General Blacksmiths
Horses Carefully Shod

The Brisbane John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland has the following description (note they show the name as "Buckley" not "Buckby"):

Men standing outside the Young and Buckley Blacksmith shop on Oxley Road, Oxley, Brisbane. The shop of timber slab construction was situated below the Oxley Hotel (Description supplied with photograph).

The 1885 Oxley Township Estate Map shows a Blacksmith on Oxley Road just near the hotel.

Zooming in to the Local Sketch you can see the Blacksmith and Hotel referenced just along from the Oxley Township Estate with a Butcher and Store nearby.

1936 Aerial Photo of Oxley Township

We looked at the 1936 Aerial Photo (almost 50 years later) of the area to see if the Blacksmith was still near the Oxley Hotel but we are not sure if they were still there in 1936.
